Above all things in this election let us be people who pray... ...
As we enter this unexpected election campaign, we might be tempted to either switch off and avoid politics at all costs or become a little over zealous and hot under the collar in political debate.
I'd like to suggest that in this period we become, more than ever, a people of prayer.
Let's pray for politicians on the national and local stage.
Let's pray for the nation as a whole as we weigh up the arguments and programmes for government being offered.
Let's pray as we read the newspaper or watch news reports on TV.
Let's pray for vigorous debate, respectful discussion, and gracious disagreements.
Finally, let's remember the wider world beyond the election and pray beyond our immediate borders.
God is faithful and we look to Him in every circumstance.
Happy Birthday to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II - 91 today!
Lord God, we give thanks today for Queen Elizabeth and pray your richest blessings upon her. May her service and dedication to you continue to be an inspiration to many here in the U.K., throughout the Commonwealth, and around the World. Amen. ...
The Lord's words to Cain in Genesis 3:7 remain vitally important words for us to heed today:
"Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master."
To subdue an enemy we must first recognise its presence.
